Emotions dance for Foundation Stage and KS1
Our blog last week looked at children’s mental health, with a focus on year 6s and SATs.
We all know that mental health is a serious issue for everyone, even at early years and Key Stage 1. This is why we’re sharing with you today our lesson plan we use for 4 – 7 year olds. The session is really fun as we use a great range of music and it’s always entertaining to see everyone’s facial expressions!
This plan can be used as a stand-alone activity, link into your PSHE topic, or connect with Mental Health Awareness Week which takes place between 14th – 20th May.

We have listed 3 different songs to use, which reflect each of the 3 different emotions. They are identified in the plan, but are also listed below…
- Happy: Walking on Sunshine, Katrina and the Waves
- Sad: Everybody Hurts, REM
- Angry: Montagues and Capulets, Prokofiev
Have fun exploring this lesson with your class and let us know how you get on!
